Background of the Study

Grievance handling procedures are vital for maintaining a harmonious workplace by addressing employee concerns effectively. A robust grievance handling system ensures fairness, improves employee morale, and enhances organizational commitment (Okoro & Adamu, 2024). In the industrial sector, companies like BUA Group operate in environments with diverse workforces, making grievance management an essential function.

In Niger State, the industrial workforce is subject to various challenges, including workplace conflicts, safety concerns, and communication breakdowns. These issues underscore the importance of effective grievance handling procedures in mitigating disputes and fostering employee satisfaction (Ahmed & Bello, 2023). This study critically evaluates the grievance handling mechanisms employed by BUA Group, assessing their effectiveness in promoting a positive work environment.

Statement of the Problem

Despite the critical role of grievance handling procedures, BUA Group in Niger State faces challenges such as delayed resolution of disputes, inadequate communication channels, and lack of employee trust in the system. These issues lead to increased employee dissatisfaction, reduced productivity, and a hostile work environment (Ibrahim et al., 2024).

This study investigates these challenges, focusing on the effectiveness of grievance handling procedures and proposing strategies for improvement.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To assess the grievance handling procedures at BUA Group in Niger State.
  2. To evaluate the effectiveness of these procedures in addressing employee concerns.
  3. To recommend strategies for improving grievance handling mechanisms.

Research Questions

  1. What are the grievance handling procedures employed by BUA Group in Niger State?
  2. How effective are these procedures in resolving employee concerns?
  3. What strategies can enhance the grievance handling process?

Research Hypotheses

  1. Grievance handling procedures do not significantly impact employee satisfaction.
  2. Employee engagement is not significantly influenced by grievance resolution effectiveness.
  3. Proposed strategies do not significantly improve grievance handling mechanisms.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

The study focuses on grievance handling procedures at BUA Group in Niger State. It excludes non-industrial sectors and grievances unrelated to workplace concerns. Challenges in accessing confidential grievance data may limit the study.
